The vessel is equipped with 4 main engines connected to two CPP propellers via two gears, and is equipped with two rudders where each rudder is driven by its own electric/hydraulic steering machine. Each propulsion system, main engine/gear and turning propeller and rudder are remotely controlled from the bridge.
The engines are of type MTU 12V 183 TE72 with MCR 640kw at 2300 RPM (2560 kW)
The propulsion for this vessel is provided by two identical independent mechanically and electrically separated propulsion systems, one in each hull.
Each system consists of two main engines, fore and aft in each engine room, connected to turning propellers(CPP) via a gear. The two diesel engines for each system are controlled by an electronic tandem control system, connected to the engine, rotary propeller (CPP) and gear remote control system.
Main engines are electrically and mechanically separated.
Motors are started using electric current (24V DC starter motors).
Engines get fuel from 2 separate fuel tanks (SB and BB).
Engines and gears are controlled by an electronic system, and by the engine's safety system, with separate (SB/BB) 24V DC power supply which is independent of the 400V main electrical system.
Engine controls are located in the wheelhouse at the chief engineer's workstation, at the captain's workstation (combinator levers, emergency stop and speed indicator) and in each machine room.
